The memorial was dedicated in 1989 with over 50 relatives from around the country of the deceased airmen attending the dedication. The more then 15,500 airmen who lost their lives in training have often been referred to as "The Forgotten Airmen" Let's hope that in the years ahead, more of these airmen who gave their lives can be remembered and honored for their service to our country during wartime training." - Contributed by Stuart Flynn.

The Veterans Memorial
Information and pictures provided by Linda Wuebben City of Crofton, Economic Development Director
The Veterans Memorial in the South Park in Crofton has been a vision in planning since 1992 when the American Legion members built a flag display on the Memorial site as it is known today. It was just the beginning. On July 4, 2008, the Legion members expanded the memorial site by adding a concrete base and seven monuments with engraved names of servicemen and women from the Army, Navy, Marines, National Guard and the Coast Guard. On July 6, 2013, the Crofton Post added a center stone, a four foot cube, seven foot high which displays etched action photos of servicemen and women as they served their country from WWII to the Korean War to the Vietnam Conflict, Dessert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan. It is the first one of its kind in the area, built exclusively for the Tucker-Brown-Everton Legion Post by Luken Memorials. The Veterans Memorial now is the home for 700 names of service personnel, living or deceased. The monies were raised through fundraising by the Legion Post.
